History: 15-year old Chazz Princeton is a duelist of the Obelisk Blue dormitory at Duel Academy (Duel Academia). He is the leader of Team Elite, until his defeat at the hands of Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki). At first a peerless duelist, believing himself to be the most elite duelist in the school, Chazz is selfish and arrogant. He originally thought that Jaden was a dropout boy who did not belong in the school. When they first met, Chazz gave Jaden a chance to show him his real power in a duel, however, their confrontation was interrupted before Jaden could rightfully win.
Later, Chazz was defeated by Jaden despite his use of several extremely rare cards provided by Vellian Crowler (Cronos de Medici). Eventually he became so dispirited and confused from his losses that he left Duel Academy and entered North Academy. There, he defeated the top duelists and becomes the "king" of the school, gaining the catch phrase "Chazz it up," while in the original version of the series it was a moniker "Manjoume Thunder" (ÍòÕÉÄ¿¥µ¥ó¥À©` Manj¨me Sand¨¡) and the catchphrase "Ò»¡¢Ê®¡¢°Ù¡¢Ç§¡¢ÍòÕÉÄ¿¥µ¥ó¥À©`" (ichi, j¨±, hyaku, sen, manj¨me-sand¨¡), which is a pun on two things: one, the first kanji of Manjoume's family name, "Man", is the symbol for the number ten-thousand - thus, the words which come before it are the numbers one (ichi), ten (j¨±), hundred (hyaku), and thousand (sen); two, Manjoume's insistence on respect when others address him - when others (especially Judai) address Manjoume, they often do so just saying "Manjoume," which Manjoume will correct saying "Manjoume-san da!" where "-san" is a Japanese honorific. However, it seems that the students of the North School believed that what Manjoume was actually saying was "Manjoume Thunder," since "sand¨¡" is how the English word "thunder" is pronounced in Japanese, and the name stuck when he returned to school. In the English version, he often refers to himself in the third person as "The Chazz."
Chazz thinks of himself as slightly above everyone else, and wants to hear it reflected when people address him. In the Japanese version, since honorifics are often dropped between close friends, Manjoume might also be insisting on it when yelling at Judai to indicate his displeasure at the thought of being Judai's friend, which Judai clearly starts to think of him as one by the time he returns to Duel Academia during the North School storyline.
As North Academy's representative, he faced off against Jaden, who defeated Bastion Misawa (Daichi Misawa) for the title of Duel Academy's representative. It was earlier revealed that Chazz is the youngest of three brothers, with his brothers Slade Princeton (Chosaku Manjoume) and Jagger Princeton (Shoji Manjoume) being the heads of the political and financial worlds, respectively. Thus, Chazz was pressured to become the head of the dueling world, ensuring the Princeton family's supriority worldwide. As such, during the duel against Jaden, his brothers had given him plenty of rare cards to duel with, but Chazz opts to use his own deck instead, choosing to handle the duel on his terms. Chazz is defeated again but realized the errors of his ways and was finally able to take charge of his own life. Though he was welcomed back to Duel Academy, he had to restart from the Slifer Red (Osiris Red) dorm. From the ordeal, Chazz, like Jaden, obtains a spirit partner in the form of Ojama Yellow, who Chazz finds annoying.
Chazz is then chosen as one of the seven keykeepers due to his dueling skills, and later faces Slade in a duel to determine ownership of Duel Academy. In the chain of events leading up to the duel, Chazz finds Ojama Black and Ojama Green, both of which join Ojama Yellow as his spirit partners. During this time, his feelings for Alexis Rhodes (Asuka Tenjouin) also become common knowledge; he constantly chases after her, love-struck, despite her protests (In the original version of the series, Manjoume even goes as far as to address her brother Fubuki as "onii-san," treating him as though he were his brother-in-law).
Chazz as a member of the Society of LightDuring the second year, Chazz duels Sartorius (Takuma Saiou) for the opportunity to rise to the Pro League, but loses. As a result, he joins the Society of Light, acting as Sartorius' means of converting the top students of Obelisk Blue and Ra Yellow. In the Japanese version, his nickname becomes "White Thunder" (¥Û¥ï¥¤¥È¥µ¥ó¥À©` Howaito Sand¨¡) from that point on until his defeat in episode 88.
After seeing Chazz's ruthlessness with the new White Knights (°×òTÊ¿‡â Shirokishi-dan) deck given to him by Sartorius, Jaden duels him with the cards that he himself once used: the Ojama Trio. During the match, Jaden shows Chazz his old black uniform, and Chazz eventually regains his senses, tearing off his white coat to don his signature black one once more. Chazz, back to his old self, retrieves the Ojama Trio to destroy White Knight's Lord, the card representing Sartorius' evil, but in doing so, willingly loses the duel to an effect of White Knight's Lord. Again in the Japanese version, following the battle, he dons his former outfit, revived as "Black Thunder" (¥Ö¥é¥Ã¥¯¥µ¥ó¥À©` Burakku Sand¨¡), though others continue calling him by his first nickname in the series.
In episode 102, Chazz, with the assistance of the remaining Obelisk Blue students, takes on the Society of Light's members to make amends. They successfully return most of them to their former selves, releasing Duel Academy from the Society's grip, but before Chazz is declared champion of the Genex tournament, he is challenged by Blair Flannigan (Rei Saotome), who had returned to Duel Academy in hopes of officially entering Slifer Red. He defeats her, and is therefore allowed to return to Obelisk Blue, but ultimately finds himself back at Slifer Red because of the little respect he receives.
